Droylsden nursery raises over £2000
A Droylsden nursery hosted their annual sponsored pyjama week in aid of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, raising an incredible £2161.75.
Space Station Day Nursery, situated on Market Street, arranged a variety of activities for both the staff and children to partake in.
Teamed together with their partner pre-school ‘Launchpad’, the group shared bedtime stories, made dreamcatchers and discussed their bedtime routines.
Branded a ‘huge success’, the week was finished off with a visit from the hospital mascot Humphrey bear who attended to thank the children for their fundraising efforts & gave them a chance to hand over their cheque.
Kim Dewar, the nursery manager, said: “It creates so many learning opportunities for the children; we discuss the reasons with them around why we’re fundraising and then that creates questions from the children, about the doctors and the nurses and what it is that they do.
“They then recall from their own experiences, for example they might have been in hospital themselves or been to see the doctor and things like that. It just opens up a lot of learning opportunities as well.
“Last year we raised £1919.57 and we didn’t really expect to beat that, given the current cost of living crisis with everyone struggling at the moment, but this year was our biggest amount that we’ve raised yet. The parents and carers were extremely generous.”
Across the five years this charity week has been taking place, the total amount of fundraising has reached £6547.75 which goes towards the children’s department of the hospital to help those most in need.
